Production – Text Work – Business Planning: Key Fields for Working as a Freelance Within the Independent Performing Arts Community
A seminar with Helena Tsiflidis, Tina Turnheim and Melanie Seifart / Special Event for the Mentees of the Performing Arts Program
Time: November 02 – 04, 2017, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Location: EDEN*****STUDIOS, Breite Strasse 43, 13187 Berlin

With the mentoring seminar Production – Text Work – Business Planning: Key Fields for Working as a Freelancer Within the Independent Performing Arts Community, the Performing Arts Program is offering a special further education format for mentees of the Performing Arts Program. The seminar is broken down into three components:

1 | Production
The starting point of this seminar is the development of a sample production process that is intended to serve as a helping hand for reflecting upon and professionalizing one’s own working structures. In doing so, basic questions are raised with regard to the funding structures in Germany, submitting applications for funding, the forms of artistic collaboration as well as regarding general working steps and the time structure. At the same time, a bridge should always be built between considerations based on the model and the specific questions and experiences of the participants. The seminar will come to a close with practical exercises for creating a budget (e.g. for guest performances, special funding programs) which will be oriented around the questions of the participants.
With Helena Tsiflidis (producer, project manager)

2 | Text Work
In the text work component on Saturday, you have the opportunity to receive an individual advisement session regarding your text over the course of 45-minute individual session.
Are you looking for the right words to make your project idea fit for a funding application or to present your work within the constraint of a short description? Do you want to put together a newsletter or are you just looking for the right tone?
With Tina Turnheim (theater maker and theater theorist)

3 | Business Model Canvas, Effectuation – WHAT!!!?

Groups, companies and solo artists within the independent performing arts community who would like to develop a business model that reaches beyond funding for cultural projects can learn the most important foundations of individual business planning in this compact workshop. The participants will learn the foundations of the business model canvas, which quickly empowers people to quickly prudently found entities and manage financial and economic matters themselves. The participants will also learn more about the resource-focused management method effectuation.
With Melanie Seifart and Peter Kessel (Kreativ Kultur Berlin)

Pro.formance: Seminar C – Research Working Environments
Workshop Director: Eva Hartmann
Time: November 9, 2017, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Location: TBA

Research Working Environments – there are different ways of being active. Some prefer to work by themselves. How do you communicate with yourself in order to organize and motivate yourself? How can you be your own challenging boss? Others prefer working with others – but do they prefer to be part of a team with a flat hierarchy or do they prefer having a boss at the top of the organization? Who takes responsibility and how is each individual motivated – in both of these models or in another one entirely?
This seminar is dedicated to these and other questions – which will then examine through practical exercises.

Pro.formance: Seminar D – Opening Drawers
Workshop Director: Christina Runge
Time: November 15, 2017, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Location: EDEN*****STUDIOS, Breite Straße 43, 13187 Berlin

Opening Drawers – together, we will examine unrealized concepts, rejected funding applications or half-explored sketches of ideas*. Is the project as a whole still relevant for us? Or are there parts of it that we would like to transform into something different? Concepts often remain unrealized because we do not have the time to reconsider them. This workshop module is intended to provide the space to achieve clarity: reset or delete?
